Environment & Sustainability

At R-evolution, we believe that sustainable transport isn’t just a choice — it’s part of the solution. Through cycling, active travel, and environmental responsibility, we’re playing our part in tackling the climate crisis and building a cleaner, greener future for everyone.

Our Sustainable Goals

We proudly support the UK’s national target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 — a crucial goal for protecting our planet’s future. Climate change is no longer a distant threat: it is happening now.
We see it in the increasing severity of storms, longer periods of drought, rising sea levels, and the disruption of ecosystems across the globe and here in the UK.

At the same time, we know that positive action is possible.
Through everyday choices — how we travel, how we use resources, how we train and empower people — we can dramatically reduce carbon emissions and build stronger, more resilient communities.
Through practical, hands-on solutions, we help individuals, families, and communities make choices that are healthier for themselves — and for the planet.

Every journey made by bike instead of car, every tyre saved from landfill, every new green skill learned — it all adds up to real, lasting impact.
Because a more sustainable world isn’t built by grand gestures alone.
It’s built by communities, one action at a time.

How We're Making a Difference

Active Travel

By running bike libraries, bike repair hubs, Dr Bike events, and cycle confidence training, we make it easier for people to get back on two wheels — whether it’s for commuting, the school run, everyday errands, or simply enjoying the outdoors.

In 2023–24, we supported thousands of people across Hull, East Riding, and North Lincolnshire in accessing safe, reliable bikes.

Every bike loaned, repaired, or donated helps replace a car journey — cutting carbon emissions, easing traffic congestion, and creating healthier, more vibrant communities.
We also work closely with schools, encouraging young people to cycle early, supporting long-term behaviour change for a greener future.

Circular Economy

We focus on repair, reuse, and recycling to extend the life of bicycles and bike parts.

We refurbish donated bikes, giving them a second life through sales, loans, or direct donations to individuals and families who need them.
In 2023–24, we recycled over 1,560 tyres, saving around 400kg of rubber from ending up in landfill through our partnership with Schwalbe and Velorim.

Every bike or tyre we restore reduces the demand for new manufacturing, cuts down on raw material extraction, and prevents waste — a real, tangible contribution to cutting industrial emissions and protecting resources for future generations.

Green Skills For The Future

R-evolution delivers hands-on green skills training — preparing people for work, life, and a sustainable future.

Our bike production and maintenance programmes teach volunteers and trainees how to repair and refurbish bikes — essential skills for promoting the circular economy while opening doors to new employment opportunities in the growing green economy.

Alongside this, our horticulture training projects (like those at Green Futures and Holderness House) teach sustainable gardening techniques, helping participants grow their own food, promote biodiversity, and reduce food miles — crucial actions for low-carbon living.

Sustainable Operation

Since 2023, 100% of our electricity has come from certified renewable sources, resulting in zero carbon emissions from powering our offices, workshops, and hubs.

We plan our collection and delivery routes carefully to minimise fuel use, save time, and lower emissions — ensuring that every bike we transport or collect has a lighter footprint.

We’re also embracing flexible, localised working wherever possible, cutting staff commuting emissions and supporting low-carbon work models.

Our 2023–24 Carbon Footprint Report showed that these steps are already making a real impact — and we’re committed to going even further in the years ahead.
